Color Crush Sew Along Month 4

Month 4 of the Color Crush BOM – can you believe it?
The Color Crush quilt features Flourish from QT Fabrics. Flourish is a colorful line with a nod to nature that makes it a versatile choice for any project.
I will be posting each month on the third Thursday of the month as I sew up the blocks and give tips as I go along – just remember that there is much more information in the pattern! The last installment will be in August with the final reveal of the finished quilt! I am listing the shops that are offering this quilt at the end of this post, so if you are a quilt shop that carries this BOM and would like to be listed – let me know!
Here is the kit - bleow. As you can see, lots of red and pink and purple this month – very similar colors to last month.

This month’s blocks require that we some HSTs – eight at a time and two at a time. We’ve reviewed this in the previous 2 blog posts here and here.
Here's the pile'o cut squares. hmmm... what will this become?

After cutting, again I’ll set aside some of these pieces for Month 6 (as noted in the pattern). Let's get to the sewing!
For 8 HST, we paired the large lavender and white squares right sides together, marked 2 diagonal lines or an X from corner to corner, and stitched 1/4” from each side of both lines. They are then cut apart on the marked lines, as well as from center to center horizontally and vertically. Don’t forget to trim to size.

For the four pink HSTs below, I used the two-at-a-time method; pair the oversized squares together, mark a diagonal line and stitch 1/4” from each side of the line, Cut apart on the marked line and trim to size.

The remaining squares are first pressed with Mary Ellen’s best press to control stretch, then cut in half diagonally. By pressing with starch, we can better preserve the original triangle shape, as the diagonal cut is a bias edge and can be pulled out of shape.

Corn and Beans Blocks
Let’s put 4 of these blocks together. This is such an interesting and versatile block!
Top left - laying out the diagonal sections with the small triangles.
Center - sewing the rows together.
Top right - Then stitch the rows together to complete the section. It is important to follow the pressing instructions in the pattern. Then we will pair a large red and white triangle for 2 of the blocks, and red and pink for the remaining.
Now, how do we line up the large triangle with the diagonal section? Fold the triangle and finger press a center fold in the long (bias) edge of the large triangle. Now match the center with the intersection of the triangles and pin. You are ready to assemble!

Here are the blocks all sewn:

And here they are sewn together!

Simple! All the sewing is done for this month! Now that you have made the Corn and Beans block, you can make the bonus project table runner from your scraps! Fun!

Watch for a new post in July for Month 5 and 6 of Color Crush!!
Happy stitching!
-Kris
